FAMily Discovery Center (Grades PK–4)

Young students are invited to explore the pop-up storybook experience of the FAMily Discovery Center! This multi-sensory journey will engage cooperative play, physical activity, and hands-on learning. This immersive forest emphasizes First American values of community, resilience, respect, and stewardship, as well as the complexity of Oklahoma’s eco-regions. Groups are required to bring one chaperone for every five students.
Guided Gallery Tours (Grades 3–12)

Skilled museum volunteers provide guided tours of the museum, which last approximately 90 minutes, including arrival and introduction. Guided tours are required for groups in grades 3–7. FAM strongly recommends self-guided tours for high school students.
OKLA HOMMA (grades 3–12)—addresses the historical stories of the 39 tribes in Oklahoma today. Ideal for educators seeking to meet social studies or history content standards.
WINIKO: Life of an Object (grades 3–12)—investigates the galleries on the mezzanine level that feature objects from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. Best for schools interested in viewing historic objects, primary sources, and those seeking to meet visual arts standards.
Native Heroes (grades 6–12)—celebrates the significance of First American artists, athletes, culture bearers and warriors to our communities. Ideal for Indian Education, JOM and tribal nation groups.
Self-Guided Gallery Tours (Grades 8–12)
Watch Video >
Self-guided tours are ideal for groups in grades 8–12 that wish to achieve specific learning goals. Groups may schedule time to explore the galleries, visit FAMstore and eat lunch.
FAM has developed a gallery activity workbook aligned with Oklahoma Academic Standards. Teachers may download and print this workbook for free. Each student must come prepared with a pencil (no pens in the gallery) and a writing surface such as a folder or clipboard.
Groups may also purchase pre-printed and bound gallery activity workbooks for each student ($1 each with pencil included).
Add-on Experiences
Another Core Experience ($4 per student, not waived for Title I schools)—Groups can add a visit to the FAMily Discovery Center (PK–4th Grades) or South Wing Galleries (3–12th Grades) to their schedule for an additional fee. These experiences last one hour.
Native Knowledge Game Show in the Xchange ($50 per presentation)—Enhance your visit with an interactive cultural presentation. Led by dynamic FAM educators, this educational experience is perfect for all ages. Each performance is 45–60 minutes and accommodates 25-60 students. This add-on is $50 per performance and does not include admission. Large groups (61+) are required to schedule two performances if the entire group plans to visit on the same day.
Walk FAM Mound (Free)—Walk three quarters of a mile round trip to the summit of the FAM Mound. Along the way, your group will see three large-scale murals and interpretive signage providing information about Mound Builder cultures. This is a self-guided experience and takes about 30 minutes.
Shop FAMstore (Free)—visitors are welcome to bring cash or a credit/debit card to purchase items at FAM. School group visits must be arranged in advance. Only 10 students are permitted in FAMstore at a time and must be accompanied by a chaperone.
